PROGRAMS

Anyone living with the effects of Acquired Brain Injury can become a member of BIAQD, by filling out a Dual Membership Application between BIAQD and OBIA (the Ontario Brain Injury Association) and paying a small annual fee.

We run a variety of different programs both in and outside of our office that are completely covered by your annual membership fee.  In addition to our weekly programs we do have special events for our members such as Golf Tournaments, Harvest Festivals, Holiday Parties and more!

Aqua Fit

Mondays

11:15 am

Every Monday BIAQD heads over to the Belleville YMCA to
participate in the Aqua Fit Program. 


The welcoming atmosphere, along with the energetic
instructors makes for a great time.  The fitness level depends solely on the individual.  You choose the intensity that you are comfortable working with.

Walking Club

Tuesdays 

10:00 am

On Tuesday mornings the Walking Club meets at the BIAQD office at 10:00 am.

This energetic group of people managed to rack up enough kilometers last summer to travel from our office to New York City! This summer we are walking our way to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

Every week they plan a different route, exploring the City of Belleville and meeting new people on their walk.

Come on out and join us for our weekly walks!

Potluck Art

Wednesdays

9:30 am

This self directed group of members from BIAQD meet on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 - 10:30. 

 

They work on things like beautiful one of a kind hand crafted cards, items for the Craft Sales, and much more. 

 

If you have an idea for a craft, come join this group as they create cards for all occasions, and spend time sharing their creative ideas. 

Fitness

Wednesdays

10:45 am

BIAQD’s weekly fitness classes are taught by local fitness instructor Vicki Legate. 

 

The classes run every Wednesday from 10:45 - 11:45 either at the BIAQD office, or on days with nice weather they enjoy the sunshine while they get fit.  These classes incorporate a mixture of different exercises, as well as fitness levels. 

 

It is designed for all skill levels, from beginner to advanced.
 

There is room for everyone to participate in this class!

Artistic Expression

Wednesdays

1:00 pm

Get ready to learn new art skills!  Every Wednesday from 1 – 3 pm the Artistic Expressions group teams up with different artists from the area and learn new techniques, and share their love of art. 

 

They have learned how to paint with watercolours, and acrylics.  They have worked on projects involving mixed media, clay, and have even taken an interest into sewing and quilting.

 

If you want to participate and explore a new talent, stop by the office any Wednesday and join in on the fun!

Recreation Program

Wednesdays

5:30 pm

The Social Recreation Group meets every Wednesday at 5:30 for an evening filled with fun! 

 

This energetic group enjoys doing things such as fishing, woodworking, bowling, playing pool, golfing, and much more.  Recently they even attended a Harlem Globetrotters game and had a BLAST! 

 

If you are interested in joining the rec group, call the office and let them know.

Music

Thursdays

10:00 am

Do you know how to play an instrument, or do you love to sing? Why not join our music group on Thursday mornings from 10 - 11:30 am. 

 

The facilitator for the music group is Dan Washburn.  He loves music, and sharing his joy with other people.  He is a great guitar player, and loves to sing.  You might have even heard him on the radio.  The group is currently working on new songs to perform at community events this summer.


If music is what makes you happy, then come join the group on Thursdays!

Computers

Thursdays

Bi-weekly

12:30 pm

Does the word Computer stress you out?  Could you use some help learning how to use your devices? 

 

BIAQD Computer Classes run bi-weekly on Thursday afternoons from 12:30 - 2:00. 

 

Join the class and leans how to use programs such as Word, Publisher, Power Point and many more.  If you have an Apple product such as an iPad, or a Mac that is giving you some trouble just bring it in and let the expert help you out.

Knitting Circle

Mondays

12:00 pm

Here at BIAQD we have a great group of individuals that have found a new love…..  Knitting! 

 

These ladies meet at the office on Monday afternoons and make the most beautiful hats.  You can choose from the traditional needle and yarn, or try out one of our new knitting looms. 

 

The possibilities are endless with our large assortment of wools, and yarns.  Come on in and give it a try.  Last year the group made 45 hats and donated them to Three Oaks.

Lunch Program

Last Thursday of each month 

12:00 pm

On the last Thursday of every month join us at BIAQD for our Yummy lunch program. 

 

Every month we cook up a delicious and nutritious meal for everyone to enjoy.

Recreation Group

Every other Friday 

10:30 am

Every other Friday a lovely group of ladies meet at the BIAQD office to enjoy each other's company, laugh, and share some delicious treats. 

This group of ladies with lived experience offer support and keep each other company. There are always lots of laughs and yummy baked goods.

Our ultimate goal is to increase awareness of the various tools that may potentially aid in living life. 

 

Topics that have been introduced at group are the benefits of essential oils, Reiki, healthy foods that help with Brain Injury recovery, and an “equine” farming experience, and the benefits of animal therapy.

Journaling Club

Mondays 

1:00 pm

 

On Monday afternoons the Journaling Club meets at the BIAQD office at
1:00 pm.

This program was funded by Shoppers LOVE YOU.  It provides a safe place where those that are living with the effects of ABI can come together and learn about the benefits of journaling, and ABI recovery.  You will receive tips, suggestions, and supports to start your very own journaling experience.

Peer Support

On going program

The Peer Support Program connects persons with lived
experience (the Mentor) with an individual who is living with the effects of an acquired brain injury and who requires the support (the Partner). 

 

The program is available to survivors, family members and/or unpaid caregivers.  Mentor/Partner matches are time specific and are made based on similar experiences, needs and personal interests. 

 

The program is coordinated through local associations, making it possible for people to be matched province wide.

Helmet Lending Program

On going program

The Brain Injury Association Quinte District provides the use of helmets to children in the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board so that all students can safely participate in winter sports. 

As of this fall we will have a Helmet Lending Program in both Prince Edward County and Quinte West.
